I will end up where I am needed most.
I swear to take responsibility of my ignorance. Who my ignorance hurts includes students, peers, institutions, and future generations of professionals.
I swear to work every damn day to reduce my ignorance, increase my awareness, and further my knowledge/understanding/empathy for others.
I swear to be a fiercely passionate educator. When this wanes I shall change the course of my path because others’ lives are at stake when I lose interest.
I swear to contribute to the field of education and Student Affairs in a real, critical, graceful, and empathetic way that is driven by a heart of equal parts justice, compassion, and love the best way I possibly can.
I swear to do something when I am able and not accept what has been done (for the sake of maintaining the status quo) when I don’t need to. Change is real and difficult and necessary all at the same time. I will choose my battles carefully, so when I do hop on or get out of the way.
Typewriter Series #431 by Tyler Knott Gregson
I believe this so hard. Hope is the best and worst thing in my life. Hope fuels me.
1. Passion oozes from every single pore of their bodies and they know exactly how to articulate it.
2. As a lover of language, I never fail to be blown away with how creatively and effectively they can express their own inner workings.
3. Poetry is such an under appreciated art form, and the ferocity which with poets dedicate their minds to creating poetry is admirable.
4. They are formidably intelligent.
5. They are willing to express their deepest emotions to complete strangers, which makes it that much more intimate.
6. Their creative talents are ones that I truly envy. I have always wanted (and would potentially still want) to be a spoken word artist, yet I lack the facility with rhythm and the gumption.
7. They are mothereffing sexy.
8. Their minds, hearts, and words are their craft. What more do you need?
9. They know how to read between the lines of life.
10. They understand pain, joy, suffering, love, heartbreak, fear, gratitude, activism, politics, social issues, and history better than any other person I know and aren’t afraid to admit it. That gets major plus points in my book.
11. Charisma for days.
12. They are generally fun to be around!
Adriana: I can never decide whether Paris is more beautiful by day or by night.
Gil: No, you can’t, you couldn’t pick one. I mean I can give you a checkmate argument for each side. You know, I sometimes think, how is anyone ever gonna come up with a book, or a painting, or a symphony, or a sculpture that can compete with a great city. You can’t. Because you look around and every street, every boulevard, is its own special art form and when you think that in the cold, violent, meaningless universe that Paris exists, these lights, I mean come on, there’s nothing happening on Jupiter or Neptune, but from way out in space you can see these lights, the cafés, people drinking and singing. For all we know, Paris is the hottest spot in the universe.
”When will I get a job? Where will I end up?
I am confident in my skills and both my ability and passion for my work. How will that translate to a new environment? I know I will end up where I am meant to be, but where is that and how come I’m not finding it?
How will all my stuff fit into one car to drive home?!
Will I finish everything I need to do before Friday?!
